REASONS TO TRAIN WITH US

THE ICA WAY

If I am taking a Saturday to train, I need a good reason. Especially when it involves travel. I have sent out the notice of our training day Jam but not I want to give you some reasons to attend.

1) You are guaranteed to learn something Why???? See 2 thru 11

2) Butch Hill: He is teaching edged weapon use and defense. He is known as one of the best and after taking classes from him, I have seen none better. Here is some common sense for you. No matter how "Billy Bad Guy" you are with hands and feet, you are going to get skinned in a knife fight if you don't learn skill specific to that. Want to just train for sport fighting and ignore the probability of someone pulling a knife on you. Reality is waiting for you Bro.

(3) James Ogle: Was teaching Jujitsu before it was popular. He has also taught High school Wrestling and was the first to have MMA training in his dojo. He also still participates, so he is training ready. He is just as enthusiastic today as when he started. At the end of every jam he is always still training when the rest of us are leaving to eat. A real warrior.

(4) Pete Mills: Was a Jujitsu/ street fighting/ self defense instructor and participant before many of you were born. He has learned much more since then and will teach you if you let him, has worked and trained with some of the most high profile martial artist in the country. A pro's pro, he is in incredible shape and knows what he is looking for when he teaches. It is for this reason I asked him to work with the new to new to first time ever group.

(5) Joe Laney: Bounty Hunter, Detective, former cop. Is a card carrying bad ass, who knows and teaches the realities of the street. He has had more real fights, than you have tournament fights. Want to spend your time with someone who has been and still is out there or listen to the guy who is just telling you what others say. This is your chance to learn from direct street experience.

(6) Ron Honeycutt: Present day cop and joint lock expert. His recent seminar before Mike Taylor’s tournament, was referred to as second to none by Mike. Mike was so impressed, he is planning on visiting Ron's dojo for further instruction. Ron was one of the first to warn against karate only when in the street. He was the "go to guy" when tough guys were being rounded up. He is another that has learned and road tested his technique under real street fighting.

(7) And then there is me: Trainer of the best fighters for the last 40 years. Do you think that is a coincidence? Do you like the way my people fight? Do you think they just all showed up and got good on their own? I can improve you 25% in one seminar if you listen to me and do what I say. I can have your punch pack some heat like never before. I know I sound like an ad In Black Belt Magazine, but I can back it up teaching and sparring with you. With bad shoulders and 68 years old, I have the hardest punch in my dojo. How? technique! Recently I saw guys throw their best shots to not even make a dent.  We will work on combinations and eliminate silly mistakes people make when they get their punching and kicking out of sync, plus many other small but critical adjustments to your fighting pattern.

(8) Good and different training partners: If you have been training in your dojo with the same people over and over, you are developing static habits, called habituation. In other words, you are generally doing the same routine with no surprises. Get outside your capsule and experience someone different, outside of the competition ring. We are going to train hard and do partner work under training conditions. Man up and come on down.

(9) Expand your skill base regardless of your experience. Been trying to fight continuous with only point skills. How has that been working for you... I've seen some of the ones going bear hunting with a switch and it wasn't pretty. Evolve or become obsolete.

(10)  No floor skills. If you have none, wake the heck up. You don't have to be a jujitsu student, but you can be taught to protect yourself on the ground and get back on your feet. With some basic tools and some practice of them back at the dojo, you will be prepared.  If not, good luck cup cake, you are getting you a- - handed to you some day. If you have students that are not trained to fully defend themselves, I hope I get to see it. It doesn't matter about your age. We can work within that situation and you should be all for that. I doubt that anyone is going to take mercy on you in the street because you are older. Just the opposite. So for the sake of your students and yourself, stick your ego and self doubts in your back pocket and let’s get on the floor. If not, someone is going to stick that ego in a very personal place.

As a final statement: Our group does this not only because we enjoy the activity, but just as much the people we do it with. Anybody that comes is welcome to add to the information and demonstrate your particular interest. It is a day of exchanging ideas and information. So saddle up and come on to Greenville where the good guys train.
