ISSHIN-RYU CROSS-TRAINERS ALLIANCE

In light of the ever growing interest in cross training, we have organized an association for the purpose of teaching and training in other martial arts disciplines (Grappling, Ju-Jitsu, etc..) that tie in with Isshin-Ryu.

This will not be your standard association with officers, dues, bi-laws, etc.. It will however have a board of advisors and the power to issue rank. The power to promote is necessary because some other associations see cross training as a departure from Isshin-Ryu rather than an augmentation. This may prejudice promotions in their eyes and cause you to be held back. Promotions will be handled carefully, as it is not the purpose for the association. It is however, an alternative to being unfairly judged for cross training in other disciplines.

We will not be competing with any association and it won’t matter to us how many you belong to. Be advised however that your present association may view your membership with us, as a breech of loyalty. Loyalty paranoia is not new to Isshin-Ryu. With new associations and opportunities spring up, it is harder for the old guard to keep control. We don’t want any control. We just want to train with hard working aggressive people.

Our focus will be education and training. Our training sessions and seminars will be held under two conditions. One, is the group “Jam” get-togethers. The other is in your dojo with just your people. All of this is covered by your foundation contribution.

It doesn’t matter if you know anything about Grappling, Ju-Jitsu or any other variation of the martial arts. This is about learning, teaching and training. If you want yourself and your students to be trained from scratch, or just improve in the various disciplines, this association will be the place for you. We will try to get tournament organizers to include competition that will test your multiple skills. But, it is up to you if you want you or your students to enter any type of competition. This is not a “control” association. It is for acquiring advanced martial arts skills. But let’s face it; it is mostly for fun.

Also be advised, that we are well aware of the general age of our senior Dans. That must and will be taken into consideration for all of us.  Many of us have existing or ongoing injuries and problems that must be considered during training. “Smart Training” is also what this is about. We will train to maximize what we still have and protect it at all cost. Do not feel that you will be placed at a physical disadvantage. It has to be fun. . . .

All dues will be paid directly to the Harold Long Foundation The ICA will collect or use no money to operate. We feel that this is a good way to contribute to the HLF and the ongoing memory and legacy of Mr. Long.

If you desire to become a member of the ICA, you may do so by donating 25.00 to the Harold Long Foundation. You will receive an ICA and HLF patch as well as a certificate. Extra patches are 10.00 dollars each and may be ordered from the ICA Merchandise page.

Membership runs from October through September. If you join before or after October, call Denny Shaffer for pro rata payment amount (864-376-8820). All payments should be made payable to:

The Harold Long Foundation
PO Box 20126
Knoxville Tn. 37940

Join with credit card using PayPal

If you are a member, your seminars and dojo training sessions will be of no charge to you. If not, “Jam Sessions” will be 45.00 per person; “Dojo Seminars” will be 250.00 per day. Also payable to the HLF.

If you choose not to become a member, you will still be welcome to the Jams and Seminars. This is not an all or nothing association we will have with the Isshin-Ryu community. It is simply a working way to promote the Harold Long Foundation with a companion organization that uses his work ethic to augment Isshin-Ryu progress.

In this spirit of progress,

   The Isshin-Ryu Cross Training Alliance
   The Harold Long Foundation
