ISSHIN-RYU  RANK

YELLOW: Two to three months. Seisan kata, bunkai, beginners skills in technique and kumite. Count to ten in Japanese and know definition of Isshin-ryu and origin of kata. Demonstrate kicks, punches and stances.

GREEN: Six months uninterrupted attendance and a history of regular attendance 35.00 for test belt and certificate Increased proficiency in all techniques. Be able to name all kicks, strikes, and stances, by their Japanese terms. Kumite on the level of a greenbelt. Know definition of Isshin-ryu as well as it’s origin and history. Know and demonstrate Seiuchin and Seisan with its bunkai.

BLUE:  A minimum of nine months uninterrupted training with a good attendance record Demonstrate additional proficiency in all techniques to include kumite and kata execution. Knowledge and execution of Seisan, Seuchin, Naihunchin and Wansu with bunkai. Must be an active member of the Isshin-ryu Cross Training Alliance. Will also serve as a mid to low grade 8^th to 5^th kyu) instructor. 50.00 test, belt and certificate

BROWN:  A minimum of one year. A good vocabulary of martial arts terms. You will be told which ones are expected. Demonstrate the first five kata, know their origin and bunkai. You must have served as an assistant instructor for three months. Your kumite must be technically sound and brown belt level. You must also be able to demonstrate 10 self defense techniques from the kata. 75.00 test, belt and certificate.

BLACK BELT:  A minimum of two years uninterrupted training and excellent attendance. A full martial arts vocabulary provided by your vocabulary sheet. Knowledge and execution of all eight kata, with strong bunkai and self defense knowledge from each. Kumite and techniques should be black belt level which will be determined prior to the test. Three months as an assistant instructor and participation in the Sho-Dan Ho (black belt in transition), program. Your ability and willingness to give back the knowledge that you have been given will be observed and judged. Most importantly; your conduct, attitude, and ability to carry the Red Dragon tradition of top grade martial artist and people will be the final factor. Miss here, and all else is immaterial and for naught. Your are following a great tradition so you can later lead it. Being a Red Dragon Black belt, indicates proficiency from the neck up, as well as the neck down. 100.00 test, belt and certificate.

  Time in grade is general, and does not indicate that you will be promoted every three months, a year, or at all. It is dependant on you. It can be more or less, plus or minus. DO NOT ASK WHEN YOU ARE GOING TO BE PROMOTED.

Increase of testing amount, is reflective the additional time required to test you.
